Following your comments about our brand, we feel compelled to intervene, out of respect for your fellow readers and our existing and future customers, who have the right to be correctly informed.
First of all, our shoes are produced in Italy, using high quality materials, mainly of Italian, German and British origin. The name and address of our Italian manufacturer has been published on our website since we launched it, a year ago, and it was never a secret.
Although at its core, Zonkey Boot is the initiative of an Austrian and a Romanian, its products and its success are the result of the work of many people of different nationalities. We are and started as an international brand, we are an international team and have international customers. Excellence and skills are to be found everywhere and they are to be appreciated equally. Our decision to produce the shoes in Italy was mainly a logistical one.
Bespoke Shoemakers & Company was founded by Michael Rollig, but sold entirely after a few years. Your insinuation that Zonkey Boot is resourcing parts or half made shoes from this company and assembling them in Italy has no grounds. By stating that we are deceiving our customers falsely labeling the shoes ‘Made in Italy’, you put yourself legally in a very delicate situation.
Zonkey Boot does not import anything from Romania, nor produces anything in Romania. If it would do so, we would affirm it proudly. As there are many high-end clothing, accessories and fashion brands producing in Romania, we find nothing wrong in that. We must assume that the many thousands of companies with German capital activating now in Romania feel the same way, as do the German brands creating quality products.
We respect fully your opinion, to which you are entitled, but we condemn your drive to misinform people as well as take quotes out of context and mixing them up with your personal opinions which you claim to be facts, with the sole intent of defaming a brand (intent which you also made very clear).
Please note that the only relationship between Zonkey Boot and Saint Crispin’s is Mr. Michael Rollig, a founding member and shareholder of both. Being the designer, the technician and the creative mind behind Saint Crispin’s, his name has become synonymous with Saint Crispin’s and what this brand stands for. That is also the meaning of ‘engineered by’, a subtitle we used in Zonkey Boot during our first season on the market. At the end of 2010, Mr. Rollig retired from the daily operations of Saint Crispin’s, remaining only as a shareholder, and dedicated his entire experience, time and attention in developing Zonkey Boot.
Now, one of the main values of Zonkey Boot as a brand is transparency, honesty and fairness applied in the making of the shoes, in both quality and price and also in communication.
This being said, we apologize to all the other gentlemen for our intervention in this discussion and we take the opportunity to wish you all a Happy New Year!
